Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act · Hanover County
Got Hanover County's Septic Pump-Out Letter?
Every year the county notifies thousands of septic owners that their 5-year pump-out is due. Here's what the letter means, what your options are — including the two legal alternatives to pumping — and how we make the whole thing a 10-minute phone call.
Your three legal options — explained honestly
1. Pump the tank
$350 – $550
The standard route. If it's been 5 years, your tank likely needs it anyway. We service, hand you dated documentation, and help you file the county report.
2. Inspection certification
A licensed professional inspects and certifies pumping isn't yet needed. Worth considering for low-occupancy homes — but if sludge levels are high, you'll need the pump anyway, so we check first and tell you straight.
3. VDH-approved effluent filter
$50 – $280 installed
Filter-equipped systems are exempt from the mandatory pump-out (VDH still recommends periodic pumping). A one-time filter install can be the cheapest compliance path over time.
